Websites that you visit – including this one – are automatically stored in temporary folders on your computer’s hard drive. Your computer will also save a list of links that you have clicked.

People with access to your computer might be able to view these details and see that you have visited the Bridge House website.

If you are concerned about this happening, you need to:

  • clear all temporary internet files (also known as a cache) from your computer, and
  • clear all the links in your history.

Familiarise yourself with the instructions below and visit any new page before you carry out this procedure, to ensure that this page itself is also removed.

The exact process will vary depending on the type of computer and software you are using, but the following instructions will be broadly accurate:

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, go to the menu bar at the top of the page and click Tools, then Internet Options. Under Browsing History, click the Delete button. You can now use the relevant buttons to delete as many items as you want.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, go to the menu bar at the top of the page and click Tools, then Clear Private Data or Clear Recent History. Select as many options as you want, and click the Clear Now or Clear Private Data Now button.

If you are using Google Chrome, click the spanner icon in the top right, then Options. Click the Under the Bonnet tab, then Clear browsing data. Select the options you want to clear, then clickClear browsing data.

If you are using Apple Safari, click on History from the menu at the top of the page, then click on Clear History. Click the Clear button. Now, in the Edit or Safari menu, click Empty Cache.

Remember, if you need to contact the police in an emergency, always dial 999.
